Masterpiece Fair - The stand out designers and suppliers

This summer, Masterpiece Art Fair reopened its doors for the first time in two years, with the verve and swagger it has always been known for. Masterpiece is the creme-de-la-creme of annual design shows in fine art, furniture and jewellery. Based in Chelsea embankment London, it presents innovative and immersive works to thousands of international visitors. Tony Chambers (ES Magazine) describes how ‘The Royal Hospital Chelsea becomes the meeting point of creatives and collectors during Masterpiece London. What sets it apart is the juxtaposition of art and design from all periods and origins.’ For the WOOLF design team this is a chance to review the couture runway of design, introduce clients to the suppliers and find inspiration.

Woolf Interior Design and Interior Architecture’s founder, Verity, visited the fair and shares the stand out pieces and suppliers that caught her eye this year.

The furniture pieces at Masterpiece Fair are unmatched, and although they are all different styles, ranging from traditional pieces to mid-century modern works, each piece has its moment to shine in the show. The work displayed by Portuondo Gallery was simply stunning. Brothers Hugo and Diego Portuondo, sons of an 18th Century-antiques dealer based in Madrid, recently opened their Pimlico road gallery and specialise in creating an eclectic mix of mid-century influence and modern design. Their works focus on 20th Century furniture, collectibles, photography and paintings with an eclectic twist.  Also showcased is a selection of period furniture and object d’art. They have accumulated knowledge and experience in this specialised field, and these are a pair to watch as their collections expand. Explore WOOLF’s projects, for mid century inspiration.

Lyndsey Ingram, representing Sarah Graham, is a London based post-war and contemporary gallery specialising in prints and works on paper: just so much beauty. Sarah Graham took the voluptuous form of the magnolia as her subject for this exhibition to reveal an unexpected variety of monumental compositions. The use of abstracted forms and enlarged scale paraphrase the natural world in a way that is both dramatic and surprising.

Adrian Sassoon’s ceramics stood out as an expression of the way ceramics can not only be beautiful, but are also underrated in terms of visual impact and craft. Ceramics can be political or sensual, as well as pleasing to look at, which is evident through Sassoon’s naughty humorous portrayal of lips and bottoms.
