Following an extensive renovation by Chatham Park Development, Dumbleton Hall Hotel has reopened as a distinctive boutique hotel in the Cotswolds. WOOLF Interior was commissioned to shape the interior design concept throughout the restored manor house, balancing historic character with a layered and contemporary hospitality experience. Inspired by the romance and architectural heritage of the English country estate, the interiors bring together atmosphere, materiality and quiet elegance across the hotel’s guest spaces.

History of Dumbleton Hall
Originally built in 1830 by the Holland family, Dumbleton Hall has welcomed celebrated literary and cultural figures including Elizabeth Gaskell, Charles Darwin and Charles Dickens. Today, the restored estate offers a refined country house hotel experience, inviting guests to reconnect with the character and atmosphere of the English manor house within 16 acres of landscaped Cotswold grounds.
Every space has been carefully curated to balance heritage character with contemporary comfort, while respecting the building’s architectural legacy. The grand entrance screens are finished in a Pugin-inspired wallpaper, referencing Augustus Pugin, celebrated designer of the Palace of Westminster and a defining figure of early Victorian Gothic Revival design.

The Pheasant Lounge
Designed with moody lighting, rich velvets and an open fireplace, The Pheasant Lounge captures the atmosphere of a classic English country house. Restored panelling and layered materials create a dramatic yet intimate setting, balancing heritage character with a warm and contemporary sense of comfort.

The Library Bar
The Library Bar is an intimate cocktail lounge inspired by the history of the estate and surrounding Cotswold landscape. The design was intended to feel welcoming rather than performative, with soft lighting, layered materials and bespoke furnishings shaping a relaxed and sophisticated atmosphere.
Luxury is expressed through thoughtful detailing and a strong sense of comfort, allowing the space to feel both refined and deeply inviting.

Cosy Manor Suite Design
The Cosy Manor Suites have been designed as intimate and inviting retreats, celebrating the charm of the historic country house while delivering the comfort expected of a luxury boutique hotel. Characterful architectural features, tactile materials and layered textiles create a warm and welcoming atmosphere that feels effortlessly relaxed.
Drawing inspiration from the building's heritage, each suite features its own unique personality, with carefully chosen furnishings, decorative accents and a rich palette of colours and textures. The result is a collection of beautifully crafted hotel bedrooms that embody Woolf Interiors’ approach to luxury hospitality interior design — creating memorable guest experiences through thoughtful design, comfort and a strong sense of place.

Cedar Restaurant 1905
The hotel’s signature restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner within a dramatic historic setting. Inspired by an “English eccentric” approach to hospitality, the interiors combine plush banquette seating, atmospheric lighting and layered textures to create a dining environment that feels both refined and welcoming.
Conceived as a gallery restaurant, the design draws inspiration from the Victoria and Albert Museum and the National Gallery restaurants, where culture, heritage and hospitality naturally intertwine. The space balances grandeur with intimacy, contributing to the hotel’s wider narrative of relaxed elegance and thoughtful design.

The Drawing Room
The Drawing Room offers a refined setting for traditional British afternoon tea of homemade scones and elegant pastries. Historic detailing has been sensitively restored and paired with relaxed contemporary furnishings, creating an interior that feels timeless, comfortable and quietly elegant.

The Orangery
Opening in 2027, The Orangery will complete the dining offering at Dumbleton Hall Hotel with an intimate fine dining restaurant centred around an open kitchen and seasonal tasting menus. Influenced by experiential hospitality design and inspired by the transition from a traditional Victorian shopfront into a classic vintage orangery, the new space will further evolve the hotel’s established design narrative, blending heritage character with contemporary hospitality.
Dumbleton Hall Hotel reflects WOOLF Interior’s considered approach to hospitality interiors, bringing together heritage architecture, layered detailing and contemporary comfort to create a distinctive guest experience within the Cotswolds.
